This is Hainan

Tommy Coleman comes from Los Angeles, California in America. He has been living in Hainan for nearly 10 years. He is the founder and a teacher of Let’s Go Education. The school focuses on English education for the children aged between 3-12, and provides adult English training for government departments and commercial organizations. Recently, Tommy is invited to teach English for the cadres at the Party School of the CPC Haikou Municipal Committee.

“I was very impressed with their willingness to learn English, speak English and take part in activities. We had a lot of fun in class. I focus more on their oral English and communicating skills,” said Tommy.

The Hainan provincial government has published an action plan to encourage foreign language learning on the island as it gears up to build a free-trade zone and port. Tommy highly speaks of the plan, which is not only important for students, but also for the government officials and cadres.

Tommy lives in Haikou with his Chinese wife and their son, so he is interested in learning Chinese and Chinese traditional culture. In his spare time, he also likes to do outdoor activities.

On weekends, outdoor English activities for children and their parents are organized by Let’s Go Education. Tommy hopes that children and parents can not only enjoy learning English, but also understand the history and culture of Haikou through the interesting activities.

“The topic of this activity is about the history of Haikou. We talked about the ports and the old architectures, we went to the West Beaches and did yoga and exercise, so that the children and parents could enjoy the natural environment”, said Tommy.

“We took a double-decker bus and had a lot of fun. We visited Qilou and the old clock tower, we talked about the history of the tower and the kids drew some pictures of it. I think it’s very important for the kids and their parents as well as teachers to experience life in Haikou”, said Tommy.

Tommy felt very fortunate to come and settle down in Hainan with his family. Over the years he has made a lot of friends at this place. “Hainan has brought a lot of happiness to my life, I’ve learned a lot about education and find myself here,” said Tommy.
